Sharm El-Sheikh Arab & European Film Festival

1st Edition

(5-11 March 2017)

The Sharm El-Sheikh Arab & European Film Festival  is an annual competitive event organized by Noon Foundation for Culture and Arts with the contribution of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture as well as public and private organizations in Egypt and Europe.

ARTICLE 1

Sharm El-Sheikh Arab & European Film Festival will hold its 1st Edition from 5th to 11th March 2017.

ARTICLE 2

The Festival is made up of the following sections:

1)      A competitive section:

l  A section reserved to fiction/documentary/animation feature films (minimum duration 60 minutes) produced  in 2016-2017

l  A section reserved to short fiction/documentary/animation films (maximum duration 30 minutes) produced in 2016-2017

2)       Non competitive sections:

l  A close-up on the cinematography of a European country.

l  An homage paid to an European director or actor.

l  An homage paid to an Arab director or actor/actress.

l  Special Events.

 

ARTICLE 3

A jury consisting of Arab and European Cinema professionals will award the prizes of the festival.

ARTICLE 4

Awards of the Sharm El-Sheikh Arab & European Film Festival:

Awards for Arab and European feature films:

l  The GOLD DJED Pillar will be awarded to the director of the best film.

l  The SILVER DJED Pillar, the jury’s special award, will be awarded to the director.

l  The BRONZE DJED Pillar will be awarded to the director of the best 1st film.

Awards for Arab and European short films:

l  The GOLD DJED Pillar will be awarded to the director of the best film.

l  The SILVER DJED Pillar, the jury’s special award, will be awarded to the director.

 

ARTICLE 5

-          For pre-selection, films must be in high quality DVDs or links. The final deadline for the submission is January 20, 2017.

-          Submission forms, available on the festival's website, must be filled and sent before January 20, 2017.

ARTICLE 6

-          Prints of the films should be sent at the address of the festival before February 15, 2017.

-          The selected films should be sent along with a promotional material: 3 posters, the trailer and film clips on DVD or DigiBeta or links for the purpose of promoting the screenings of the films in the festival.

-          The festival will bear the shipping charges from the source of the print to Cairo and the cost of reshipping within 2 weeks after the closing of the festival.

-          Prints of the films received from abroad will be submitted to the rules of the temporary admission in Egypt.

 

ARTICLE 7

General conditions of participation in all sections of the festival

-          Films participating in the festival will be shown in original version and subtitled in English  (the original language is that in which the film has been shot in its country)

-          The festival will bear the cost of the Arabic electronic subtitles.

-          The Egyptian films will be screened with English subtitles.

-          No film can be withdrawn from the program during the festival

-          The festival accepts the films selected in 35mm, BluRay, DCP or Data (.mov) files.

-          Each film participating in the festival will be shown 3 times maximum

-          The festival’s management commits to preserving the received film copies, starting from their arrival date in Cairo and until their return.

-          All above mentioned conditions and dates are obligatory.

ARTICLE 8

The festival will insure insurance coverage of the film print upon arrival at Cairo International Airport and until its reshipment.                   

In the event of film loose, the festival's responsibility is limited to the value declared by the producer in the film registration form. Any damage / lose claims must be sent to the festival within one month of the closing of the festival or the claim might be rejected by the insurance company.

ARTICLE 9

These rules are written in Arabic and translated in English and French. In case of false interpretation, the rules in Arabic will act as proof. The president of the festival is the only person empowered to clarify any litigious issue in these rules. In case of litigation, Egyptian Law and Egyptian tribunals will be seized.
